Flight 309 To Tennessee!

When I think of Shelly West, the first two things that come to mind are “You’re The Reason God Made Oklahoma” (one of my all-time favorite songs) and “Jose Cuervo”. But one of the things I love about listening to classic country radio stations as opposed to playlists I create out of my own collection or on Spotify is that I end up hearing songs I’d completely forgotten about.

I just heard “Flight 309 To Tennessee”, a song I haven’t heard in over 20 years. Not the greatest song ever, and if someone heard it and said, “that ain’t country” I probably wouldn’t argue with them. Still, if I were listing Shelly West songs this is one I would have neglected to think of, so it’s cool to hear a tune like this. My favorite thing about hearing old forgotten tunes is when the opening line hits you and you know this song but just can’t place it. Then the hook comes and you think, “oh yeah…that’s it!”
